Pre-Mobilization Requirements

First Day on the Job Site — Safety Documentation You Need

Your first day on a commercial job site isn't day one of work — it's day one of proving you're safe to work.

Your first day on a commercial construction site managed by a GC starts with documentation, not tools. Before your crew begins work, the GC's safety coordinator will verify that you've submitted all required safety documentation, your workers have appropriate certifications, and your company meets the site's insurance requirements.

If any documentation is missing or incomplete, your crew waits. On a project where you're paying workers $40-60/hour to stand around, a documentation delay on day one can cost thousands before lunch.

Here's what you need to have ready before you arrive, and how SafeDocs can help you prepare the safety documentation portion in minutes instead of days.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I submit safety documents — before or on day one?

Before. Most GCs require safety documentation 48 to 72 hours before your scheduled mobilization date. Submitting on day one means your crew waits while the safety coordinator reviews — and they may not review it that day.

What else do I need besides safety plans?

Beyond safety documentation, GCs typically require: Certificate of Insurance (COI), signed subcontract, W-9, workers' compensation certificate, and OSHA 10/30 cards for your crew. Check your GC's specific pre-mobilization checklist.

What happens if I show up without the required documents?

Your crew will be turned away at the gate. The GC's safety coordinator has the authority to deny site access to any subcontractor that hasn't completed the pre-mobilization requirements. You'll need to reschedule after submitting the missing documents.
